Western Drive next to Hughes Plaza has been narrowed to make room for construction crews. However, Western Drive will still be accessible for pedestrians and wide enough for wheelchair access. Signs titled “Safety First” have been put up around the site to offer alternative routes.
The thoroughfare has been narrowed for safety reasons. A crane will eventually be brought in to work on the development and work on the site outside the plaza. Due to the sheer size of the project and work being undertaken, this was the best place for the crane to be. In order to prevent the risk of students getting caught on a crane’s counterweight and flying all over the place, sections of the drive have been cordoned off.
In the meantime, I hope congestion doesn’t get too bad and so far so good. This student humbly suggests not walking through the drive in a large, slow moving group or using the drive as a flash mob location to avoid congestion problems.
